In this article, you're going to learn how to break through the social awkwardness that you encounter, and how to stop isolating yourself from the social scene.

The first thing you need to do is examine yourself and how you interact in social situations, and if you find that you lack in certain areas. Practice in those particular areas, and you'll find that the next time you're in that same situation, you'll be less nervous because you know you have practiced and worked through the awkward problems you've had in the past.

Next, you need to realize that everyone has their own internal mental world just like you, and the better you can relate to their mental world, the more successful you'll be when interacting with that person. You do this by asking questions about what they like, what they don't like, etc.

Third ,you need to find people that have the same interest as you. This will ease the awkwardness greatly because you'll already have something to talk about, with the people you meet. It's hard to have a good conversation with a person, if you don't have anything in common with them. It's not you or the other person's fault. It's just a natural law, "Like attracts Like." You can find groups of people with the same interest as you at a site called meetup.com. The groups meet regularly during the week or weekends in any area you're in, and you can get some real good practice by joining one of the groups.

Fourth, control your negative thinking. Don't let negative thinking get into your subconscious mind and get stronger. Weed out negative thinking, and think positive thoughts. If you let negative thinking get into your subconscious mind, they will get stronger and become habit, which is something you don't want. On the other hand, if you shower your subconscious mind with positive thinking, that will become habit, and you'll find that you'll have better outcomes in situations.

Finally, remember that when you're trying to form friendships with people, it usually takes time. Don't try and force a friendship at the first meeting, just relax and go with the natural flow of things. Give people's minds time to get to know you and process an opinion of you, and they'll let you know if they like you or not. Usually they will if you have something in common with them and you don't force anything. By doing this you'll find that you'll be more relaxed.
