Cheaply Decorate an Ugly Room
Cheaply Decorate an Ugly Room

Do you have a room in your house that you are embarrassed for others to see, if you even show them at all? By following a few easy and inexpensive tips, you can banish that room from your home!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paint
  • Area rug
  • Snowboard or surfboard
  • Brackets
  • Calendar pictures
  • Foam core board
  • Spray mount
  • Double sided tape
  • Lamp
  1. Step 1

One obvious and also inexpensive way to spruce up an ugly room is to paint some or all of the walls. Painting just one wall as an accent wall can really fix up a room without too much time. Of course, you are not always in the situation to be able to paint since some landlords do not allow it. See the other tips.

  2. Step 2

Add an area rug. You can find cheap area rugs at places such as Target. Also check thrift stores, craigslist, and freecycle. An area rug can really brighten up a "blah" room.

  3. Step 3

If you are a snowboarder or surfer, one idea to cover some ugly wall space and add to the "cool" appeal of the room is to mount your snowboard or surfboard on the wall. All you need are a couple of brackets from the hardware store.

  4. Step 4

Another idea for the walls: if you have some pretty/cool/interesting calendar pictures that you like, you could mount them on foam core board with spray mount, and stick them to the wall with double sided tape. Foam core, spray mount, and double sided tape can all be found at Wal-mart and are relatively inexpensive.

  5. Step 5

Change the lighting in the room. Use a lower wattage light bulb, or buy a cool lamp at a thrift store, and use that in the room rather than the overhead light.
