If you need something a little different and you enjoy the taste of chocolate, you will enjoy the taste of a chocolate meringue pie. Instead of making a lemon meringue pie for the Christmas bake sale, be a little different and make a chocolate meringue pie that will be the envy of all the bakers. Even if you have never made a pie before, you can make a chocolate delight that will please all chocolate lovers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 9 inch pie crust
  1. Step 1

Bake the pie crust as directed on the package and cool. Separate the egg yokes and egg whites. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

Use a large pan to make the pie filling. Combine salt, cocoa powder, flour and 1 cup of sugar together in the pan. Add milk and egg yokes and stir until mixed thoroughly with a whisk.

  3. Step 3

Place the pan on medium heat and cook until you have a mixture consistent with pudding. Stir continuously.

  4. Step 4

Add the vanilla and butter into the mixture and stir until mixed thoroughly. Pour the mixture into the baked pie shell.

  5. Step 5

Whip the egg whites with a whisk in a bowl until foamy. Add 1/4 cup of sugar gradually as you continue stirring until the mixture forms stiff peaks.

  6. Step 6

Pour the meringue over the chocolate mixture. Cover the entire pie. Bake for five minutes or until the peaks turn a golden brown. For best results and taste, chill before serving.
