How to See a Satellite View of My House

You don't have to ascend a building to get an overhead view.

Google regularly takes overhead pictures of the United States and other countries for its mapping program. These pictures are then made public for free on maps.google.com, allowing any Internet user to see what a house or neighborhood looks like from a bird's eye view. You can see a satellite view of your house in a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Google.com and click the "Maps" tab.

    • 2

Type your home address -- including the city, state and ZIP code -- into the blank field at the top and click the "Search" icon, denoted by a magnifying glass.

    • 3

Click the "Satellite" button if you have it. If not, hover your mouse over the word "Map" in the upper-right corner. An "Earth" button will appear. Click it and follow the onscreen instructions to install the Google Earth Plugin on your computer. You will need that to be able to see the satellite view of your house.

Click the "+" sign to zoom in and get a better satellite view of your house.

Tips & Warnings

  • The free satellite view of your house that Google provides is not a live image; the picture is updated every few years.
