make a simple Bakugan Birthday Cake & Bakugan Party ideas

My child wanted a Bakugan-themed party. We incorporated the Bakugan theme into the party in several low-stress ways.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cake (cookie cakes are popular among kids)
  • frosting in white, red and yellow and black
  • computer and printer to make your own invitations
  1. Step 1
Invitation based on final screen of a Bakugan online game.

Invitation based on final screen of a Bakugan online game.

For the invitations, you can go to a Bakugan game or Bakugan screen on your computer. On a PC, then press the print screen button. Open a graphic editing program (such a Microsoft Photo Editor or FastStone Image Viewer--see link at end)--any graphic editing program should work. Choose 'Paste' or 'Paste image'.

  2. Step 2

Using the text function, place the party info on top of the picture in appropriate places. See example. Try to match the test style, color and background color to those in the photo as close as possible.

  3. Step 3

For the cake, I used ideas from www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com and tried to copy the back of a Bakugan card. Since the card is a rectangle, make a rectangular cake. Either a standard cake or a cookie cake will do.

  4. Step 4

While the cake is cooking and cooling, make frosting. Use mostly white, but make some red and some yellow. Standard food coloring will work, but for the brightest colors, use the paste sold with cake decorating supplies. If you mix in just a little extra milk, the frosting will be easier to spread and won't go on quite as thick.

  5. Step 5

When the cake is cool, frost the entire cake with white icing. Then make a circle of yellow icing from about halfway between the center and edge of the cake, and make the width of the circle about 1/4 of the width of the cake. From the edge of the yellow icing circle, make a red icing circle that goes to the edge of the short side of the pan. The location and size of the circle do not need to be exact since we will be smearing it in the next step.

  6. Step 6

Next make the bursting pattern by dragging a knife from the center to the edge all around the circle. Make sure the knife is clean each time you put it in the white center of the cake (or else a little red and yellow icing will get mixed up in the center, as happened in the cake photo). To be true to the card, you could put some black icing over the white icing at the edges of the cake.

  7. Step 7

When you do step 6, the icing has to be relatively soft and not too thick. Add another tablespoon or two of milk to make the icing a good consistency for this step. Then stick the cake in the fridge for a few hours to harden the icing before the next step.

  8. Step 8

Then using a tube of red icing, make the red circle and design from the Bakugan card in the center of the cake. To be similar to the Bakugan card, orient the cake so that the short sides are horizontal and the long sides are vertical.

  9. Step 9

Put the child's name in black horizontally through the center red circle instead of the word Bakugan. Then write 'Happy Birthday' around it. If you want the cake to look professional, be careful about properly centering all the words.

  10. Step 10

Use red, yellow and white candles with yellow, red, white, orange and black napkins, plates, tablecloth and cups. Decorate the room with balloons in these colors and with Bakugan cards/pictures.

  11. Step 11

For the treat bags, print out a Bakugan character or symbol and glue onto plain paper or plastic bags. For inexpensive Bakugan-themed items, get a large package of Bakugan cards and distribute among the treat bags. Bakugan stickers or tattoos can be added too. Then add some other fun toys--small bouncy balls, pencils, pens, erasers, notepads, noisemakers, for instance--in Bakugan-theme colors of red, orange, yellow, white and black.

Tips & Warnings
