Racking up those early termination fees is not fun at all. To find out how you can get out of your contract without having to pay for those early termination fees (ETF) read on.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If you just purchased your new added phone line within the first 30 days most wireless carriers will give you the opportunity to cancel without an early termination fee. Just remember that any deals discounts you received from the contract will now have to be returned or refunded.

  2. Step 2

Roaming charges can also be a benefit to you. This is because some wireless providers pay for your roaming charges. If this is the case the more roaming minutes you rack up will cost the wireless provider more than what the early termination fee is worth. If enough roaming minutes are used the company will eventually send you a letter with an opportunity to get out of your contract without an ETF.

  3. Step 3

When a service provider makes significant services changes, for example are being bought by another wireless carrier, this can give you a perfect opportunity to get out of your contract without an ETF. Significant service changes you don't like are called Material Adverse Change (MAC) and the details are stated in your contract.

  4. Step 4

If your phone or service has recurring problems contact your wireless provider and keep detailed notes on each contact with them. Always get a confirmation number and the name of the person you spoke with. After an estimated ten calls over a two month period you can ask to terminate your contract without an early termination fee.

  5. Step 5

If you have a friend who needs a cell phone service provider call your wireless carrier and ask for an assumption of liability transfer. They can then transfer your existing contract over to your friend. The benefits to this is that your friend is now only committed to the length of your existing contract and not tied down to the usual 2 year contract.

  6. Step 6

If all else fails move to an area that has a blackout of your service in that area. The wireless company can then terminate your service without an early termination fee. Some service providers have website's where they show where their blackout areas are.
