Dirt Devil manufactures a line of lightweight vacuum cleaners, including upright models that use a drive belt to propel the roller brush. When the drive belt breaks or stretches until worn out, the roller brush will no longer turn. With a readily available replacement belt, follow these steps to install a new belt on your Dirt Devil.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement drive belt
  • Dirt Devil vacuum
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Unplug the Dirt Devil and turn the vacuum cleaner upside down on the floor so the bottom with the roller brush is facing up.

  2. Step 2

Remove the four screws from the black cover plate to expose the roller brush and rubber drive belt.

  3. Step 3

Pull out the old belt if it is broken, or cut the belt off the roller with scissors if it is still in place but stretched and worn out.

  4. Step 4

Push the slide on the left-hand side of the roller brush to release the roller so it can be lifted straight out.

  5. Step 5

Place the belt over the roller and reinstall the roller in the vacuum cleaner housing.

  6. Step 6

Seat the drive belt in the groove on the roller and pull back on the belt to lift it over and onto the pulley attached to the motor.

  7. Step 7

Seat the belt in the groove on the pulley.

  8. Step 8

Replace the cover plate and secure with four screws.
