Instructions

    • 1

Gather together all of the recipes that you've got on cards and scraps and bits of paper. Even if they're in books---mark the pages that have tried-and-true recipes you've loved, so that you can organize them all in one place.

    • 2

Use a word-processing program to type out all of the recipes you've gathered. Each time you type out a recipe, save it under the actual recipe name. Don't place all of the recipes on one document; start a new document for each one. Remember to add any changes or modifications that you've made to the recipe.

    • 3

Save all of your recipes in single location on your computer. Create a new folder for them, or save them under "My Documents," where you'll remember where all of your recipes are.

    • 4

Place a writable CD into your CD burner. A dialog box will pop up. Choose "View Files." You'll be taken to an empty folder. Leaving that folder open, open a new window with the location of all of your recipes in it. Right click on the empty CD folder, and choose "New Folder." Give the new folder a name that's a category of recipe, such as "Desserts," and press "Enter."

    • 5

Drag all of your dessert recipes from their original location on your computer to the new window with the new "Desserts" file. Just drop them directly onto the folder, and they'll automatically be put inside. Categorize all of your recipes in this manner. You can do "Breads," "Entrees," "Breakfast Foods," or whatever other categories are appropriate.

    • 6

Press "Write to CD" when you're finished organizing all of your recipes in the CD folder. The computer will automatically write all of your recipes to the CD. When it's done, the CD will pop out of the drive.

    • 7

Use the CD on your laptop, right in your kitchen, the next time you need a recipe. Just insert the CD and choose "View Files." You'll be able to use your organized categories to navigate to the right recipe and follow it, right from your counter top.
