How to Get Rid of Brown Hormonal Spots

Brown spots on the skin can be caused by hormonal changes. Both women and men may suffer from hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance can cause an increase in melanocytes (skin pigment) production and cause brown spots to appear in the skin. These spots can appear anywhere on the skin. Causes of hormonal imbalance include an unhealthy lifestyle, thyroid problems, glandular problems and eating disorders. By employing all the remedies below you can safely and effectively get rid of brown spots.

Things You'll Need

  • Shea butter
  • Bleaching cream
  • Lemon
  • Turmeric powder

Apply shea butter on the affected area in the morning. Shea butter contains phytonutrients, vitamins and other important nutrients which can reduce browns spots and other discolorations of the skin. Apply a small amount shea butter and massage it into your skin for about 15 minutes. Wash the shea butter off and pat your skin dry afterward. You can purchase shea butter at a health food store.

Apply an over-the-counter bleaching cream. Most bleaching creams contain hydroquinone, which is an effective skin lightener. When used as directed, bleaching creams can gradually fade brown spots in a few months. Follow the directions on the package.

Apply lemon juice to the affected area once a day. The citric acid in lemons is known to lighten hair and skin. Cut a fresh lemon in half, remove any seeds and gently rub the affected area for 10 minutes. Leave the lemon juice on your skin for 15 minutes, then rinse well and pat dry.

Treat brown spots with turmeric paste. Curcumin is the active ingredient of turmeric, which has antioxidant and skin lightening properties. Add 10 tbsp. turmeric powder to 8 tbsp. clean water. Stir until the mixture turns into a paste. Add more turmeric powder or water if needed. Gently massage the paste onto the brown spots and leave on for about 30 minutes. Rinse the paste off well and pat dry. Apply this paste every night before going to bed.

Consult a dermatologist and consider getting laser therapy. Laser therapy diminishes the melanocytes (dark pigments) that give brown spots their color. It usually takes five to 10 sessions before you can notice results. After the therapy, the brown spots will gradually fade over time.
