How to Remove HP Software

HP Software consists of a series of programs installed by default on Hewlett Packard Windows based computers. They include drivers, imaging devices, printer software and more. Many of these programs launch automatically at computer startup and use system resources. If you do not use any of them, you can remove the applications without damaging system components. This process can either be accomplished from the Control Panel or using the removal tool.

  • Click the Windows "Start" button and click the "Control Panel." Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to open the programs window if you are a Windows XP user. Doube-click "Program and Features" and click "Uninstall a Program" under "Programs" to open the programs window if you are a Windows Vista user.

  • Click the HP software (e.g. HP Imaging) you want to uninstall and click "Remove/Uninstall." Follow the guided prompts to uninstall the program as they vary with different HP software.

  • Download and run the uninstallation tool if you are unable to remove the HP software from the programs window. To do so, go to the HP Officejet Softare download page (see Resources) and click "Download only."

  • Click "Save" to download the HP software removal utility on your desktop. Double-click the removal tool after it has downloaded and click "Run." The removal tool removes all HP Software in a 4 level process. When the process is complete, your computer is free of HP Software.
