How to Send Multimedia to a Mobile Phone

Multimedia is a term that refers to photos, backgrounds, video, audio, animations and text. In the past you could only send and view these varied items on a standard computer, but nowadays you can send them to and from a cell phone. You can also send a multimedia message from your computer email to a cell phone. The recipient must have a data plan enabled on his phone in order to receive these messages.

Instructions

  1. From a Phone

    • 1

Compose a new text message as you would normally on your cell phone.

    • 2

Select the option to create a new MMS message. This stands for "multimedia messaging service." It is an extension of standard SMS (short message service) texting that allows the user to send photos and video to another cell phone in addition to text.

    • 3

Type the recipient phone number into the "To" field of your MMS message or simply select a contact from your address book. Type in a subject for your multimedia message.

    • 4

Go to your options menu within the MMS message and select "Add Picture," "Add Video," "Add Audio" or similar. Find the photo, video, audio, or animation file that you want to send, which should already be stored on your cell phone. Attach it to your message.

    • 5

Type in a supplemental text message to go along with the media if you'd like (this is optional).

    Through Email

    • 6

Find out which cell phone carrier your recipient uses. Then visit the carrier's website to find out the appropriate format for sending an MMS message as an email. For instance, for Verizon Wireless the format is "phonenumber@vzwpix.com" with "phonenumber" replaced with the recipient's actual 10 digit mobile number.

    • 7

Open your email system on your computer and compose a number message. Enter the recipient's MMS message address and a subject line as you would normally.

    • 8

Attach a photo, animation, video or music file to the email message. Type in an additional text message if you'd like and then send the email. Stick with one multimedia item per email as many cell phone services have size limitations for MMS messages.

    • 9

Check your email to ensure that the message went through fine and was not returned due to an incorrect address or size limitations. The cell phone user can also send a multimedia or standard text message back to your email address.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that you will likely be charged an additional fee to send or receive a multimedia text message due to the message size. The usage is tracked on your data plan.
