Step 1
Choose a charity to donate your motorcycle to. Many charities help children, such as Teddy Bear Cops, which helps children who have suffered abuse or emotional damage. Other donation websites allow you to choose which charity you would like to benefit from your donation per a list of various charities. Any charity will greatly benefit from your donation.
-
Step 2
Inspect your motorcycle. Most motorcycles are accepted regardless of condition, but certain organizations will be pickier than others. The Teddy Bear Cops organization typically accepts more motorcycles than other charities, so if your motorcycle is in particularly bad shape, consider donating to this charity. Regardless of condition, the motorcycle will not be thrown away. It will be auctioned off to dealers who will fix it up and resell it. In the meantime, your donation will be helping many people.
-
Step 3
Fill out the online form for the charity of your choice via the donation website. Some websites offer the option to call a toll-free phone number instead. If you choose to fill out the form online, you may enter questions or comments in the comments field. After the form is submitted, you will be contacted via email with a page of instructions that will assist you with the pickup of your motorcycle, which is at no cost to you.
-
Step 4
Collect your official tax receipt from the organization. Donations to charitable organizations are tax deductible under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If your motorcycle sells for more than $500 at the auction, you will be sent a tax receipt with more information such as its fair market value. You will be able to use this information to receive a tax deduction.
