Indian corn wreaths make festive decorations to celebrate the autumn season but can be quite costly if you buy them. To save money, create your own wreaths using dried corn and flowers. Place Indian corn wreaths on the front door of your house, hang them on a wall as a Thanksgiving decoration or give them to friends or family as gifts.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dried Indian corn
  • Dried flowers
  • Grapevine wreath
  • Florists wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Acrylic spray
  1. Step 1

Lay the grapevine wreath, dried Indian corn and dried flowers on a tabletop. Look at the colors of the corn and the flowers, and place them around the wreath to see how they would look. Evenly distribute the Indian corn around the wreath. This way, the wreath will appear more balanced and centered when placed on a wall. Use the same method for the dried flowers, spacing them so that they create a balanced composition.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the dried corn and flowers with florist wire. Florist wire is a thin wire that is coated in a green plastic, commonly used to wrap floral arrangements. You can find florist wire at any craft supply store or florist shop. Once you place the flowers and Indian corn where you want them, use a florist wire to bind them to the grapevine wreath. Hook the end of the florist wire into the back of the wreath, wrap it around the wreath, attaching the flowers and Indian corn to the wreath in the process. Wrap the wire around the wreath in a uniform spiral pattern until all of the dried materials are securely attached to the wreath.

  3. Step 3

To make the wreath last longer, spray it with an acrylic paint, available at most supermarkets or art-supply stores. Take the wreath outside or to a well-ventilated area, and hold the acrylic spray can at least 12 inches from your body. Spray the wreath quickly, not lingering on one area too long or it could cause the acrylic spray to become too wet in that area. Allow the spray to dry completely, and let the wreath air out for 24 hours. The Indian corn wreath is now ready to be displayed for the holidays, or to be given away as a festive gift.
