How to Find a Priest

In times of sorrow or joy, some people find themselves in need of spiritual guidance. Priests offer those services, including counseling, marriage ceremonies and funerals.

Instructions

  1. Finding a Priest

    • 1

Use a computer or other Internet device to search for the closest Catholic church. If you do not have computer access, search a local phone book under church listings.

    • 2

Telephone the church. Tell the secretary your need for a priest and arrange a time to meet or call or speak with him. If you reach a recording, leave a clear message including your full name, phone number and reason you wish to see or speak with the priest.

    • 3

Call or meet with your priest at the arranged time. Explain to him your needs. He might direct you to another priest who is better equipped to deal with your circumstances. Follow up as he advises.

Tips & Warnings

  • In the case of a medical emergency, you might wish to ask the hospital whether they have a priest who visits the facility or one who is called regularly. Some hospitals have a priest on staff.

  • An immediate meeting or call from a priest might not be possible because many priests have large parishes to care for.
