When you get a new puppy there is quite a bit of work to be done before the puppy comes home. This article will give you some tips and ideas on how to prepare your home for the new puppy. Not only do you have to prepare before the puppy arrives, but you have to have a daily routine to stay on top of it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    *Have a Family meeting.
You need to decide what room of the house the puppy will spend most of it's time in. Will the puppy sleep in the same room? When you decide which room, you will need to prepare that room. You will need to make a list of rules for the room the puppy will stay in.

  2. Step 2

*Preparing the room for the puppy.
Basically look around the room and move anything puppy-level you do not want ruined. This includes furniture, yes puppies will chew on furniture. Get everything off of the floor speakers, plants, or decorations. Anything you do not want to become a chew toy, move or put it up out of reach.

  3. Step 3

    *The rest of the house.
As a general rule you will want to get anything dangerous or worth saving off the floor. Puppies love garbage! Are you garbage cans secure or out of reach? Keep all of the common areas the puppy roam clean and free of debris.

  4. Step 4

    *The yard.
Some people use a "peeing post" to train their puppy where to do their business. Make sure the yard area where the puppy will play is clean and free of any dangerous materials or debris. Make sure when the puppy does arrive that his or her waste is cleaned up regularly. A puppy can get worms from old feces.

  5. Step 5

*A few suggestions for puppy room rules.
Make sure everyone knows that if you bring something into the puppy's room, you put it away when you leave. Never leave food alone in the room with the puppy. Never leave shoes or sandals in the room with the puppy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your puppy always has plenty of chew toys to keep them busy.
