Find A Lost Dog, Cat, Bird or Pet

A lost pet can be devistating in people's lives. They are our little pals in life, and sometimes the curiosity gets the better of them. In this article, I will detail some creative ways and practical ways to find a lost pet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with internet connection
  • Printer
  • transportation to an animal shelter
  1. Step 1

Print many flyers and post them on telephone poles in your neighborhood or area. Put a LARGE photo of your pet on the flyer. Use less detail and let the picture do the talking. A simple “Lost Dog” in bold lettering and a BOLD phone number with a photo is fine. You want to be sure to make these flyers EASY to see from the road and a car.

  2. Step 2

Ask your neighbors if they have seen your pet wandering around.

  3. Step 3

Ask neighborhood kids if they have seen your pet. Be careful with kids, sometimes they can send you on a wild goose chase. It's easy to tell strong determination in a child if they have seen your animal. If they have not they'll seem drawn back.

  4. Step 4

Call the local animal shelter and give them a description of your dog, cat, bird, or pet. Often this is a very successful method.

  5. Step 5

If none of your attempts work, post more flyers at parks, and neighborhood entrances in your area. Expand outwards in a diameter from your home. Do not post on regular streets as except for three streets around you. Post your flyers on neighborhood artery streets.

  6. Step 6

Have a pet taxi on standby. Many times people call and will say “I've seen your dog on Lemon st.”. You will have to be prepared to get up and go quickly.

  7. Step 7

Ask people in your neighborhood association. Many of these people know several people in the community.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always offer a small reward, but do not post it. Give them a $20 gift card to a local chain restaurant or something of that nature. Higher reward amounts will not make people “more honest” so to say. Most people are happy to help you find your pet.
  • Missing birds are tougher to find than a dog or cat. The same methods apply though.
