Choosing the best omega 3 fatty acid supplements can be hard when you are faced with so many brands and types. Below are ways to find the most quality type supplements that will help you reach optimal health.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the dosage. A good omega 3 fatty acid supplement should have 1,000 mg of docosahexaenoic (DHA) and eiosapentaenoic (EPA). The combination of both has been said to produce the highest quality of omega 3 fatty acids as they work together to systematically lower your cholesterol levels and reduce risk of heart disease.

  2. Step 2

Invest in omega 3 supplements with a good DHA level as it is especially crucial to expecting and lactating mothers. Omega 3’s have been proven to increase a baby’s visual performance and cognitive development. DHA in most fish and flaxseed oils is also responsible for relieve depression and other mood disorders.

  3. Step 3

Foods high in omega 3 are your salmon, halibut, and tuna. However, don’t fret if you cannot get these servings in 2 to 3 times a week. Use quality omega 3 fatty oil supplements to pick up where you are deficient. However, it is highly encouraged that you reduce your intake of cod oil as it can have extreme high levels of vitamin A which can weaken bones.

  4. Step 4

Test for purity. Many people worry about mercury and other dangerous levels like lead and PCB’s in fish and flaxseed oil. Tests have shown that most FDA approved omega 3 fatty acid supplements must contain safe levels of these ingredients. However, you can gauge the levels yourself by taste testing; if the supplement has a too fishy taste, it more than likely has levels of mercury that can harm a fetus or individual.
