How to Make a Simple Sleep Sack
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the No. 1 cause of mortality in babies, according to Baby Zone. The syndrome strikes mysteriously, but many researchers and parents advocate removing all soft materials, including blankets, from a baby's crib to help lower the risk of SIDS. To help keep a baby warm while sleeping, many parents are using sleep sacks instead of blankets. A quick summer sleep sack can be made from an adult's cotton, button-front shirt. The buttons are already in place, so fasteners don't need to be sewn on the sleep sack.

1
Place cotton button-front shirt face up on your work surface. Place a sleep sack pattern over it, positioning the pattern so the neck falls just below the shirt's collar. Draw around the pattern with a pencil, and cut two matching pieces, one from the top layer and one from the back layer of the shirt.

Attach each side and the bottom together, using the sewing machine, leaving a 1/4-inch space between the thread and the edge of material.

5
Fold down the edge of the neck 1/2-inch and pin it. Stitch around the neck 1/4 inch in from the edge. Repeat this with each armhole.
