- The willingess to make certain behavioral and cognitive changes to help this occur.

Step 1
Evaluate what you perceive your personal boundaries to be. Are these strong, weak, or somewhere in the middle.

Step 2
Write down on paper the areas that you think your personal boundaries need improvement with. Make sure that you take the time to do this and think about all areas of your life.

Step 3
Now write down any of the people in your life that you believe are crossing your personal boundaries. Who is repeatedly crossing your boundaries, and who is it that you need to be especially careful protecting your boundaries from.

Step 4
When learning how to protect your personal boundaries, it is important to make changes in the way that you relate to others. It is also important that people know that your boundaries are strong and that they cannot be easily crossed. Much of your own personal boundary setting is non verbal.

Step 5
If somebody touches you inappropriately, it is important to pull back immediately. The person who does this will know what was done is inappropriate.

Step 6
In learning how to protect your personal boundaries, you must also stand up for yourself if you are insulted. You cannot allow people to put you down in any way. Immediately respond by telling the person that you do not insult people and you do not appreciate being insulted.

There are many ways that you can protect your boundaries by standing up for yourself if you are insulted or touched inappropriately. Many different strategies can be used with different interpersonal relationships in your life.

Start building a better, and healthier level of self-esteem. Once you begin to do this, you will learn how to protect your personal boundaries with greater ease.
