1. Cover grey hair that is 10% grey by applying a color rinse. Hair that is only 10% grey will contain enough pigmented hair to hold onto a color rinse. Color rinses are specially formulated shampoos that contain small amounts of hair color, and will fade gradually. Using a color rinse allow someone with a small amount of grey hair to color it with a natural look. To use a color rinse, wash the hair as you normally would with a regular shampoo to remove dirt and oils, then wash it a second time using the color rinse. Allow the color rinse to stay on the hair according to the instruction on the bottle, then wash the rinse out with water.

2. Cover grey hair that is 25% grey by applying a temporary hair color. Hair that is 1/4 grey will contain too much grey to allow a color rinse to look natural, but can work well with a temporary hair color. A temporary hair color is applied in the same way as a permanent hair color, but will fade gradually over a few weeks. This is a perfect solution for someone who is nervous about coloring their hair, but would like to cover up the grey hair that they have. The box containing the temporary hair color will contain a bottle, the hair color, and the instruction booklet. Some kits contain protective gloves as well. Follow the instructions for application exactly, which vary depending on which brand of temporary hair color you chose.

3. Cover grey hair that is 50%-100% grey by applying a permanent hair color.
