Apple's iPod is a great way to take a whole list of media with you, including movies and TV shows. The problem with the iPod is that it does not play all video types, and most people have video files in the form of AVI. A simple and free program changes all of that and converts your video file to an mp4, which is playable on all video iPods.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • iPod
  • Computer
  • DVD
  • USB Cable
  • Red Kawa iPod Video Converter
  1. Step 1

Download and install Red Kawa's iPod Video Converter. Insert DVD into your computer DVD tray and close the tray. Cancel out of any autoplay that might startup.

  2. Step 2

Open Red Kawa iPod Video Converter. The first time you use the program, a window will appear asking you to pick your iPod type. On the next page you will have the option to convert a DVD or video file. Click on "Convert DVD."

  3. Step 3

Browse to your DVD drive when a new window appears and select it. On the next page, choose where you want the file to be named and where it should be saved. Click "Next."

  4. Step 4

Pick your appropriate settings for the new video file. There will be a meter at the top of the page to let you know how big the file will be when you tweak the settings. The bigger the file, the better the quality, so be aware.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Convert" button and your DVD will be converted to an iPod video file. After the process completes, the program will automatically add it to iTunes. Connect your iPod and drag and drop the new file to your iPod from within iTunes.

Tips & Warnings
  • The conversion process will take between 1 and 6 hours depending on the strength of your computer and length of the DVD. This is because the movie has to be completely re-encoded.
