How to Replace the Pump in a Whirlpool Dishwasher
The Whirlpool dishwasher is a convenient and reliable appliance. However, when the dishwasher does not drain the water there may be a faulty water pump. Turn off the circuit breaker that provides electricity to the dishwasher. The circuit breaker is located inside your home electrical panel.

Use a screwdriver to the remove the two screws that secure the access panel and the toe panel to the dishwasher. The screws will be located directly below the bottom of the dishwasher door.

Pull the access panel and toe panel away from the dishwasher. You may have to insert a putty knife between the floor and the toe panel to start pulling them away from the dishwasher.

Place a shallow pan near the water pump and the drain hose, as close as possible. You will use the pan to catch as much residual water as possible that may remain in the hose or water pump.

Use channel lock pliers to remove the drain hose clamp from the drain hose and water pump. Press the tabs of the clamp together and maneuver the clamp away from the water pump outlet.

Lift the locking tab that connects the wiring harness to the water pump and disconnect the harness.

Press up the plastic locking tab that is behind the water pump. Rotate the water pump counterclockwise 90 degrees to release it from the Whirlpool dishwasher.

Take the old water pump to an appliance repair shop to get a replacement. Make sure that the replacement is identical to your existing water pump.

Set the new water pump inside the locking sleeve and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise to lock it into place.

Connect the wiring harness to the water pump by sliding it into place until the locking tab engages.

Slide the drain hose over the water pump outlet and secure it with the compression clamp.

Place the toe panel and the access panel back in place under the dishwasher door. Secure them using the two attaching screws.

Turn the circuit breaker on.
