Ice your pimple by applying a cold compress to it for a few minutes to reduce swelling and redness. Sometimes this and a little concealer are all you need to make a blemish effectively disappear.

Dab a little bit of acne cream containing salicylic acid directly onto the blemish. Just use a little---too much can inflame the surrounding skin and over dry your zit, making it even more obvious. The salicylic acid should reduce redness and swelling, making your pimple less noticeable.

If your breakout's still obvious, try using a Zeno device. (You can find them at dermatologists' offices, some retail shops and online.) They target the bacteria that causes zits with a high-frequency electrical current, which makes the swelling and redness disappear.

If you're still not happy with the results, call your dermatologist to book an early-morning emergency cortisone shot. Though you shouldn't take this course too often, a cortisone shot will make the inflammation in your pimple disappear, leaving a barely noticeable blemish.

To prevent future breakouts, use a gentle cleanser to wash your face twice a day and opt for noncomedogenic cosmetics, which are less likely to clog your pores.
