Instructions

    • 1

Choose a container. Lucky bamboo plants like to be root bound and do best in small containers. Find a ceramic cup, glass jar or vase. The radius of the container should be no more than 2 to 3 inches from the bamboo stalks when placed in the center of the container.

    • 2

Place a layer of rocks or marbles at the bottom of the container. Depending on the size of your container, the layer should be ¼ as high as the container.

    • 3

Plant your bamboo stalks. Center your bamboo stalks upright with the leaves pointing upward, in the middle of the container. Be sure enough of the plant is inside the container so as to not tip over.

    • 4

Fill the rest of container with rocks or marbles. Lucky bamboo does not need soil or sand to grow. Tightly packed rocks or marbles provide the idea housing for roots.

    • 5

Fill the container with water. About 1 inch of standing water is sufficient for growth. Add fresh water daily or whenever you notice the level of water diminishing. The roots of lucky bamboo must never be allowed to dry as this will kill your plant.

    • 6

Place it in an area with indirect sunlight. If leaves begin to turn yellow or brown, move it to an area with less direct sunlight.

Tips & Warnings

  • If leaves begin to dry out or curl, add more water. Mist your bamboo plant daily for optimum growth.

  • Place your container in a location where it won't be easily knocked over.
