Take the clothing which contains mold stains outside and use a scrub brush to dislodge any large areas of mold that can come off easily. It is important to scrub off mold outside so that you don't breath in any mold spores or get them on your hair or clothes. Use small, circular movements to scrub out as much of the mold as possible. After the garment has been scrubbed with a large scrub brush, use a toothbrush in the same fashion to get out mold stains from the tiny fibers in the cloth.

If the clothing you are working on is white, a simple, chlorine bleach can be used on the scrubbed cloth. Pour a small amount of bleach onto the cloth and use the toothbrush to scrub the bleach into the fabric. Use small circles to work the bleach into the material. After about 1 minute, dunk the cloth into water, then repeat the process. Once the clothing has been dunked into water and scrubbed with the bleach three times, it is ready to be laundered.

If the item of clothing you are working with is colored, you should not use a chlorine bleach, because it could severely fade and ruin the garment. Instead, pour a small amount of color-safe oxygen bleach onto the spot, then scrub it with the toothbrush using circular motions. Dunk it into water after 1 minute, and pour more color-safe bleach onto the clothing in order to scrub it again. After scrubbing and dunking the garment three times, it will be ready to be washed.

Place the clothing into a washing machine and pour in the appropriate amount of detergent. Do not put a bleach-soaked item of clothing in the same load of wash as a garment that is soaked with color-safe bleach. Wash the clothing in the normal cycle of the washing machine, then hang it outside to dry in the sun.
