How to Change Your Number to a Different Verizon Phone
Have you ever wanted a different cell phone but still keep the same phone number? With Verizon, this can be done in about five minutes. Changing your number to a different Verizon Wireless phone is simple. It requires just a little cell phone programming, which involves entering a few activation codes to transfer the number to the new phone.
Things You'll Need
- Verizon account
- Verizon cell phone
- Phone's ESN/MEID number
- Second phone

Turn off the cell phone you plan to transfer the number to. Hold down the red "End" button on the phone's keypad until the screen shuts off.

Remove the back cover and take out the battery. There will be a set of numbers above and below the bar codes on the back of the phone. Write down the numbers that are labeled ESN and MEID. These are usually between 11 and 14 digits.

Dial 1-800-922-0204 from another phone and press "1" in technical assistance. Listen to the automated options and respond accordingly by entering each answer in your phone's keypad to be connected to a Verizon technical specialist.

Request an ESN change. This is the technical name for transferring your cell phone number to a different Verizon phone. Provide the ESN/MEID number from the back of the phone.

Tips & Warnings
You can do this through the Verizon automated system, but if you are unfamiliar with the process or have trouble, it is recommended that you contact customer service. Have your Verizon account information in hand when you contact customer service. This will make the process easier and quicker.
You must have a Verizon Wireless account in order for this to work. Make sure the phone is not blacklisted (stolen) or active with another number. These are two situations where a number cannot be transferred. There is a charge for ESN changes. It is usually about $15.00 and will added to your next bill.
