How to Find Friend Codes on Nintendo DS

Save

Friend Codes are used on Wi-Fi capable Nintendo DS games to identify individual players when playing online. Each code is a unique 12 digit code that only works for one specific game. The Friend Code is generated the first time that the game is connected online through the Wi-Fi feature of the DS. This code can be given to other players to make it easier for them to play with you online.

  • Insert a Wi-Fi capable game into the Nintendo DS.

  • Connect the Nintendo DS to the Internet. This is automatically done if you are in range of a wireless router or at a public Internet hotspot.

  • Choose the "multiplayer" or "play online" option. The exact phrasing will differ from game to game.

  • Choose the "Connect to Nintendo WFC" option.

  • Confirm that you would like a new Friend Code if prompted. This will only occur the first time you connect the game to Nintendo's network.

  • Check the multiplayer screen for your Friend Code. It will usually be located in the top-left corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only Wi-Fi capable games have Friend Codes. Other games do not need them, even if they do support multiplayer. Wi-Fi capable games have a blue circle logo saying "Nintendo Wi-Fi connection" on them. The Friend Code for Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl and Pokemon Platinum is found by inspecting the Pal Pad key item in your inventory.
  • You should only play Wi-Fi capable Nintendo DS games on your own system. Playing on another Nintendo DS can potentially override your own Friend Code. This will prevent your friends from being able to identify that you are online.
