How to Connect Wire to an Amp
There are two types of wires that are normally connected to a home stereo amplifier: speaker wire and audio/video cables to connect other components. In a home theater or stereo amplifier system, the electrical wire is already connected to the amp. Home systems use cables with plugs to connect an amp with other components, such as a CD player. Follow these steps to wire your amp.
Instructions

1
Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the speaker wires using the wire stripper.
-
2
Check the back of the amplifier to see which type of wire connections are in place. Most amps use either a spring clip or a screw-in post for attaching wires.

3
Lift the spring clip to expose a hole underneath where the speaker wire should be inserted. For post connections, unscrew the knob, wrap the speaker wire around the metal post and then tighten the knob.

4
Connect audio and video cables using the color-coded cables and plugs. Red and white plugs connect to the right and left audio jacks on the amplifier. A yellow wire and plug connects to the video jack when connecting components such as a Blu-ray or DVD player.
