The brake lights on a 1991 Toyota MR2 need to be checked every 6 months to make sure that they are functioning normally. In many states, a burnt-out brake light can earn you a stiff fine, or a fix-it ticket. Once you've removed the old brake light, check the bottom of the bulb for the part number. This number can be taken to any auto parts store and is needed to get the correct brake light. After you have the new bulb, you must know how to install the brake lights on the MR2.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Insert the new brake light into the hole in the back of the brake light housing.

  2. Step 2

Push the bulb into the housing until the ballast sits flush with the back of the housing.

  3. Step 3

Orient the ballast so that the tabs on the ballast fit into the grooves on the back of the housing.

  4. Step 4

Turn the bulb and ballast clockwise to lock the brake light into the housing.

  5. Step 5

Plug the electrical plug into the back of the ballast.
