Daily life for many of us has shifted from hectic to chaotic. With demands from work and family consuming much of our time there's little left to address our personal needs. Throw into the equation worries about finances and you have an overwhelming recipe for stress and anxiety. With minimal time to relax it's essential that we find or develop techniques that consistently bring tranquility and peace into our otherwise demanding lives. By incorporating these activities into our regular routines we can better maintain our sanity, be more effective workers and parents and relieve stress without having to use prescription medications.

  1. Step 1

    Explore the far east. Specifically practice yoga or learn to meditate on a daily basis to relieve stress.

  2. Step 2

    Exercise on a regular basis. Whether it's a session of resistance training or a night for cardiovascular fitness few activities benefit the mind and body more than exercise.

  3. Step 3

    Treat yourself to a weekly massage and feel the tension melt from your body. If you're on a budget try taking a relaxing hot bath with fragrant essential oils. The hot water and aromatherapy will help to relieve stress and leave you feeling invigorated.

  4. Step 4

    Avoid caffeine! You might enjoy the taste of coffee but the reality is that caffeine is a neurostimulant that can exacerbate your stress and anxiety. Switch your beverage to green tea which not only has far less caffeine but has a documented calming effect.

    Don't smoke. In addition to being dangerous to your health and cost prohibitive tobacco is also a stimulant that can worsen

    Considering getting a canine companion. Numerous medical studies have documented the stress relieving effects of owning a pet dog. There are many wonderful choices waiting for the chance to help reduce your stress and blood pressure located at your local humane society.

  7. Step 7

    Try to get enough sleep. It sounds simple enough but we all know how difficult that can be at times. Getting adequate rest is critical to relieve stress without resorting to medications.
