With the downturn of the economy and people losing their jobs left and right, homelessness is at its peak. There are many ways to help the homeless yet many people don’t know the right steps to take to actually make a difference in a homeless persons life. Following are a few simple steps to take to help the homeless.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  • Love
  • House
  • Determination
  1. Step 1

Meet the needs of the homeless. Before you can help the homeless you’ll first need to determine what homeless people need. A homeless persons main needs include: shelter, food, water and love. Giving a homeless person money is one such way to provide for a few of the above listed needs. A lot of people don’t like giving the homeless money because they are afraid that the homeless person may spend the money on beer or drugs, etc. yet this should not be a reason not to give money to the homeless. If you don’t like to give out cash to the homeless you could always go yourself and purchase what the homeless person needs (hotel room, warm food, etc.). Another main thing homeless people need is love. When helping a homeless person be sure to be kindhearted, understanding and always have an open ear. Love the homeless person just as you love yourself.

  2. Step 2

Start a fundraiser. Starting or operating a fundraiser is another excellent way to help the homeless. Having a yard sale or bake sale, etc. are a few fundraiser ideas. When you start a fundraiser be sure to advertise your mission or purpose as this could draw more people and supporters for the cause of helping the homeless.

  3. Step 3

Opening up your home is another step you may be willing to take to help the homeless. Opening up your home as a temporary shelter for a homeless person has its disadvantages as well as its many advantages. Before you open up your home for the homeless be sure that others who live in your home are okay with the idea. Also be sure that you actually have enough room to house a homeless person. Opening up your home to help a homeless person in need is an important way to help the homeless.

  4. Step 4

Pray. One of the most important ways or steps to take to help the homeless includes prayer. Ask God to open up doors so you’re capable of helping the homeless. Ask God for advice concerning how to help the homeless in your area. God hears all prayers and if it’s according to His will then doors will be opened and the homeless people in your life will be cared for.
