Nothing can ruin your day more than having your iPod die during your favorite song or just as your new ebook is getting good. Although Apple indicates that an iPod battery should be good for about 400 charges, the end could come at any time. To help extend the life of your iPod battery, here are a few simple tips.

  1. Step 1

    Keep your fingers off the "next" and "previous" track buttons. Every time you use these functions it drains the battery just a little bit.

  2. Step 2

    Turn down the brightness of the screen to conserve battery life of your iPod.

  3. Step 3

    Don't allow your iPod to remain unused for long periods of time.

  4. Step 4

    Run the battery down completely once a month, which will help extend the life of a lithium ion battery

  5. Step 5

    Stop using the "song shuffle" feature and create playlists for your favorite tunes.

    Keep your iPod away from extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.

    Keep your iTunes software up to date by checking it for updates each time you plug it in.

    Be sure to switch on the "Hold" button when your iPod is not in use. This will keep it from being turned on accidentally and running the battery down.
