If you're an eBay seller and are using only "auction style" listings, you are missing out on sales! Think about it, what are the chances that the right buyer and seller meet up during a short 7 day window (aka, the auction period)? Well, sometimes those chances are slim, and the solution is to open an eBay Store! You can list items for a few cents a month and set them to run for 30 days or until it sells. List it once, set your price and forget about it (until it sells!!).

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • eBay Sellers Account
  • Credit Card on File and Feedback of 20
  • Verified PayPal Account
  1. Step 1

Start selling on eBay and build up your feedback to at least 20. Set up a credit card on file with eBay (for the eBay Store monthly billing). Be sure your PayPal account is verified.

  2. Step 2

From eBay's home page, hover your cursor over "Sell" at the top right. A drop down menu should come up. Click on "Seller Tools & eBay Stores".

  3. Step 3

On the far left, under "eBay Stores" click on "What's an eBay Store?". Now spend some time looking over the store levels. I suggest the Basic Level at $15.95 a month for most people. Also, think about a store name. Click on "Start a Store Now!" and get started.

  4. Step 4

When listing, where you normally see "online auction" you click on the "store inventory" tab instead. Pretty much the whole listing process is the same. Once you get the ball rolling, set up store categories. You may also want to personalize your store (colors, image headers, etc) depending on your computer skill level. eBay also offers s few to choose from.

  5. Step 5

Now that your listings are set, promote your store! I use my blog, Twitter and Facebook. You could also add your store's URL as part of your e-mail signature. Good luck and happy selling!

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of listing store items for 30 days, I use the the "Good "til Canceled" option. That way I'm not having listings end only for me to turn around and re-list them again every 30 days.
  • Have patience.
  • Stay organized, I keep my store items in clear tubs that are labeled. For example, I have 2 tubs labeled "mugs". Items should take no more than 5 minutes to locate.
  • Request a PayPal MasterCard/debit card. It pays you back 1% and it can be the credit card on file with eBay. This way, you have a card on file, it's coming from your PayPal account (you're using eBay money to pay for eBay fees....as it should be) and you'll earn a little cash back.
  • Store categories will help your store look neat and clean. Example categories: Books, Men Clothes, Toddler Boy Clothes, etc...
  • Determine a "shelf life" for you listings. Mine is about 2 years.
  • Be ready to be surprised at what people will buy. :)
