How to Remove Vomit Smell From a Carpet

Vomit plus carpet equals a bad combination. Even if it is cleaned up immediately, the terrible smell of the vomit can be engraved in your carpet for days, weeks or even months.       Fill a small bowl about one-quarter of the way with warm water. Mix about 2 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda into the water. The combination of the solution should be about equal parts and should produce a pastelike mixture.

      Apply some of the solution to the carpet and rub it in with a brush. Sprinkle some dry baking soda onto the carpet and let that sit for a couple hours.

      Vacuum it up once the paste mixture is completely dry on the carpet. There still may be some excess paste stuck to the carpet. It should come right up by scrubbing it with a dry brush and vacuuming again.

  • Sprinkling some baking soda on your carpet before you vacuum can help any smells that make have accumulated on your carpet. Once it's vacuumed up your carpet (and vacuum) with be stench free.
