Make your own Emergency Preparedness Kits

Emergency preparedness kits are your way of being prepared just in case you are ever faced with a natural disaster, serious health epidemic, or other happening that puts your survival at risk. Here you will find the basics needed to put together your own survival kit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin by figuring out what items are the most important and need to be included in your Emergency preparedness kits. These items will be things that are crucial for survival in most cases. These may include the following: non-perishable food items, utensils, clean drinking water, air filtration masks, blankets or weather-proof clothing items, shelter, medicine, books and medical kits or supplies.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the items that you will be using in your emergency preparedness kits.

    Specific suggestions include:
    Survival Blankets (1 per person)
Non-Perishable Foods - freeze dried (enough to last a few days or weeks)
    Chemical/Particle Masks (1 per person +1 extra)
    First Aid Kits (Fully loaded)
    Aspirin and/or Ibuprofen
    Antiseptics
    Clean Sanitary Rags
    Bottled Water
Utensils (can opener, sharp knife, sporks etc.)
    Flashlights
    Batteries
    Rope
    Battery Operated Radio

  3. Step 3

Separate the items for your emergency preparedness kits into duffel bags, back packs or other easy to carry and store containers.

  4. Step 4

Place your survival bags in your most used and frequented areas. These are areas that you are most likely to be when and if a natural disaster or some other kind of disaster strikes.

Recommended places to stash your emergency preparedness kits are: in the car, at the office or your place of work, near the entrance and/or exits in your home.
