Naturally Highlight Brown Hair

This works very well on light to medium brown hair, although presumably it would work well on other hair colors too. I have heard of this procedure turning some blondes' hair red, so if you're blonde take the precaution of testing it out on a little bit of hair first before treating all of your hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Cloth (a terry washcloth will work well)
  • A warm, sunny, breezy day

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the commonly available hydrogen peroxide, not the much stronger product sold at beauty supply stores (unless you want very bleached hair).

    • 2

Wash your hair and remove excess moisture with a towel. Your hair should be damp. For an all-over highlight, pour the hydrogen peroxide, undiluted, over your head and hair.

    • 3

For chunks of highlight, take sections of your hair and wipe them with a cloth saturated with the hydrogen peroxide. Make sure to get all the way up to the roots.

    • 4

For highlights on the top hair layer only, take your hydrogen peroxide-soaked cloth and wipe it over the top layer of your hair.

    • 5

Once you've applied the hydrogen peroxide to get the results you want, go outside and stay there until your hair dries. For best results choose a sunny day when the weather is warm and a breeze is blowing.

You can repeat this procedure to make your highlights even lighter. Enjoy your new look!
