How to Cure Painless Mouth Ulcers

Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores, are irritated skin sores that occur on the inside of the cheeks, the tongue and the gums. Although mouth ulcers can be painful, the pain can dissipate over time as the sores are healing. After the pain is gone, however, the mouth ulcer may still remain for weeks. You can speed up the healing time of these painless mouth ulcers very simply and easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Swish hydrogen peroxide solution--one part hydrogen peroxide, one part water--in your mouth. Swish for 30 seconds and rinse. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural disinfectant that will speed up the healing time of mouth ulcers.

    • 2

Avoid spicy and acidic foods. Foods that are spicy or acidic irritate mouth ulcers, so avoid jalapeno peppers, salsa, hot sauce, tomatoes and tomato sauces, citrus fruits and sour candies.

    • 3

Place a mixture of salt and baking soda on the ulcer. Mix one part salt, one part baking soda and a few drops of water into a paste, then apply the paste directly to the mouth sore. Leave the paste on the sore until it dissolves. Salt and baking soda have antiseptic properties that promote healing.

    • 4

Brush your teeth with a toothpaste that does not contain sodium laureth sulfate. Sodium laureth sulfate is an abrasive foaming agent that is present in some toothpastes. Toothpastes that do not contain sodium laureth sulfate are available at your local grocery store or drugstore.

    • 5

Wait it out. Mouth ulcers will usually go away on their own without treatment in two weeks. If you do not experience any pain from your mouth ulcers, it is perfectly safe to wait until the sore disappears on its own.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drink plenty of water to speed the healing time of mouth ulcers.

  • If mouth ulcers are preventing you from eating, sleeping or talking, see a doctor.
