Apply the base layer. When applying light, day makeup it is important to use a light, oil-free foundation that will not appear thick or heavy on the skin. Oil-free foundations do not contain heavy oils or ingredients that cause the foundation to sit on the skin like a cream, but rather use ingredients that work with absorbable substances, such as alcohols, that blend into the skin to allow it to look natural and light.
Use a small amount, around the size of a pea, and gently dot around the main areas of the face, including the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Use the fingers to blend in the foundation, carefully sweeping around the jawline and around the ears so that there will not be an visible demarcation line.

Apply the cheek color. When selecting a blush for light, day wear, chose a color that is lightly tinted without containing too many pigments. Light peaches or light pinks will add color to the cheeks without causing the blush to appear artificial or too strong. Use a large blush brush to apply the blush, to cover a wider area and not focus too much on a specific area on the face. Swirl the brush into the blush until the brush is covered, then tap the brush gently with your hand to knock off the excess blush. Starting at the apples of the cheeks, gently glide the brush along the cheekbone until you reach the ear. Reapply as needed until the cheeks are slightly tinted.

Apply the eye color. Eye color worn during the day should be a softer shade of brown or gray in order for the eye make up to complement the eyes without causing the eyes to appear too harsh. Avoid using heavy black eyeliner, strongly colored eye shadows or black mascara because these can cause the make up to appear obvious.
Using a brown or gray eyeliner, draw a thin line along the top eyelid close to the eyelashes. Use an eyeliner blender to blend the eyeliner in so that any distinct lines are eliminated. Apply a soft brown or gray eyeshadow lightly to the upper eyelid and blend it in with your finger. Finally, apply a soft brown or gray mascara to the upper lashes only. Avoid using eye makeup around the lower lid during the day, as it can make the eyes appear tired or sunken.

Apply the lip gloss. To complete the light make-up look, use a lightly tinted or clear lip gloss on the lips to add a touch of color and shine without causing the lips to appear artificial.
