The Bissell Pro-Heat carpet cleaner works by shooting hot water and carpet cleaner into the carpet, then suctioning the dirty water into a holding tank. The Pro-Heat heater in the machine heats the hot water from the tap 25 degrees hotter, getting your carpet cleaner than using hot water from the tap. Another feature of the Bissell Pro-Heat carpet cleaner is the double-scrubbing beater bars that double the cleaning action, refreshing the nap of the carpet with each pass of the carpet cleaner.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Carpet cleaning formula (Bissell or generic brand for steam cleaners)
  • Hot water
  1. Step 1

Locate the tank that holds the carpet cleaner at the back of the machine. It is a plastic canteen-like bottle, almost clear, that is upside down. Pull the bottle up and out, placing it in sink, ready to fill with carpet cleaner. Unscrew the cap, filling the bottle with carpet cleaner to the fill line. Recap and place bottle in the back of the machine in the original position.

  2. Step 2

Remove the water-holding tank from the front top of the machine by the handle, pulling straight up. A release clamp at the back of the tank needs to be unclamped to release to upper part of the tank so you can fill the bladder with hot water. Fill the bladder with hot tap water and replace the upper part of the tank, making sure the clamp is engaged to hold the two parts together.

  3. Step 3

Place the water tank back onto the base of the carpet cleaner. Plug the machine into an electrical outlet and turn it on for five minutes before using it. This heats the water in the holding tank 25 degrees hotter than water from the tap.

  4. Step 4

Set the adjustment dial on the front of the machine to the desired cleaning strength.

  5. Step 5

After five minutes, locate the trigger button on the handle at the grip. The trigger button releases the water and cleaning solution at the same time, using the cleaning strength you set.

  6. Step 6

Press the cleaning trigger and move the Bissell cleaner forward slowly in a straight line. Release the trigger and slowly pull the machine backward over the same path. Repeat this process until one section has been cleaned.

  7. Step 7

Keep a close watch on the water and cleaner levels while you are cleaning the carpet. Depending on the size of the room you are working in, you may need to refill the water tank and cleaner bottle several times, along with emptying the dirty water tank before the job is completed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be care with delicate or wool carpet by not using the heat setting. Cleaning in sections saves time in the cleaning process because you can avoid cleaning the same spot twice. Clean the carpet in one direction and then the other direction for optimal cleaning.
