Rubber mulch is becoming a popular alternative to traditional wood shavings for home and commercial landscaping and neighborhood playgrounds. Rubber mulch does not deteriorate or compress and does not promote mold or fungal growth. Rubber mulch is manufactured from recycled products and comes in a variety of colors, allowing you to enhance your lawn not only with your landscaping but with its covering. Installing rubber mulch is a simple process that almost anyone can manage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Ensure the proper barriers for the bed are in place. If the location of the bed is not subject to flooding, bed edging won't be necessary, as rubber mulch is heavy and will not wash away in a normal rainstorm.

  2. Step 2

Remove the old, wood mulch from the bed unless it is completely compacted. If the old mulch is compacted, the rubber mulch can be installed on top of it.

  3. Step 3

Install a weed barrier over the area to be mulched.

  4. Step 4

Pour and spread two inches or more of rubber mulch throughout the entire bed.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the mulch after installation to remove dust.
