  1. How To Make a Shrimp Trap to Catch Shrimp

    • 1

Place the fish and liver parts onto the newspaper and finely chop them up. The texture should resemble that of tuna fish. Mix in the red clay and salt, and mash the mix together to form 1-inch balls. Put the balls into the bottle.

    • 2

Cut the bottle below the spout at the top of the wider area. Take off the cap, invert the bottle top and put glue along the outer circumference. Stick the bottle top into the bottle and press down to form a seal. The shrimp will be able to get in, but not out. The opening will be too small for other types of fish to enter.

    • 3

Place the bottle horizontally into the tank. If you are trying to trap shrimp in a lack, tie a rope around the bottle's midsection. Tie the other end to the bottom of a weighted PVC pole, and then stick the pole into the lake's floor. Make sure the pole is long enough so that you can see its tip from coming from the surface. Wait two hours and return to your trap to see if shrimp have latched onto the bait.

Tips & Warnings

  • Build a larger trap by using 5-gallon water bottles. However, this time leave the caps on the bottle tops but cut small one-inch holes in the cap. You may also have to dig a little into the floor bed to make the opening easier for shrimp to reach.
