How to Restore Deleted Images
Sometimes, you delete images from your computer--or someone else deletes images--that you did not want deleted. If images have been deleted from your desktop or from another area of your computer, retrieve those images by restoring them from your recycle bin. Follow a few steps to restore them. However, if you cannot find the images anywhere on your computer, including in your recycle bin, you will need software to restore those images.

Double-click on the recycle bin icon--this is the little trash can on your desktop, most typically in one of the corners if you have not moved it. Double-clicking on this icon will open a window containing the contents of your recycle bin.

Scroll through the files until you find the image you are looking to restore and left-click on it to highlight it.

Right-click on the image, using your right mouse button or, if you're on a laptop, your right pad button. Select "Restore Files" from the drop-down menu and close your recycle bin. (Alternatively, highlight the image as suggested in Step 2 and click on the restore link to the left of the file view for XP or above the file view for Vista). You should be able to find the image in your My Pictures folder, in your My Documents folder or on your desktop.

If you cannot find the image once you have restored it, perform a file search, using the search option in the Start menu. Type in the file name exactly as it appeared when it was saved. There are a number of software packages available for computer users who have lost their images. According to Online Tech Tips, one such program that is free to download and use is Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery. The program is user-friendly and uses only 1MB of space on your hard drive.
If you empty your recycle bin, you will be deleting those files forever; restore the files you want to keep before you empty the recycle bin. Before downloading any software to your computer, research the safety of the software to ensure that no viruses will install on your computer upon download.
