How to Care for Your Backyard Fountain

  1. Step 1

The first step is to review the instructional manual that came with the fountain. Step by step maintenance instructions should be included for your particular model. Make sure the pump is on the correct setting and is in the proper position. If adjustments need to be made, please do so. The flow of water should be steady, with a nice, smooth flow.

  2. Step 2

Make sure nothing is blocking the sprinkler head. Sometimes debris or deposits can build up and block the flow of water. Turn off the water and remove the sprinkler. One of the best remedies is to soak it in equal parts of vinegar and water. This will naturally clean off the debris and is not harmful to the environment. You will want to check your fountain about once a week, and make sure to remove all debris such as leaves and twigs. This will ensure optimal functioning.

  3. Step 3

If you live in an area that has freezing cold winters, it is best to empty the fountain and keep it completely dry for the cold weather season. Cover it for the unused season or store indoors. This will help extend the life of your backyard fountain and guard against cracking.

Tips & Warnings
  • Backyard fountains make long-lasting, great gifts. Keep them in mind for your next gift-giving.
  • If your fountain is easily accessed by small children or animals, do not use any harmful ingredients in the care or cleaning of your fountain, like bleach.
