How to Get to a Web Browser on R4 DS
Amateur developers in the Nintendo DS user community have created numerous software applications that make use the DS's technology and features. User-made, or "homebrew," software gives DS owners access to custom games, media storage and even Internet applications. Costello's free application DSHobro allows users to surf the Internet with a DS from any wireless network. Homebrew applications are made possible by DS SLOT-1 storage devices like R4DS, which plug into the DS's game slot and allow users to store and run software.

- R4DS kit with MicroSD card, DS SLOT-1 adapter and USB adapter
- PC
- Nintendo DS

Plug the MicroSD card into the USB adapter. Insert the adapter into your PC.

Download the DSHobro zip file (see Resources). Extract the contents of the file to your PC's desktop.

Open the DSHobro folder. Drag the DSHobro.nds file to your MicroSD card.

Run the server.exe file in the DSHobro folder. Tweak any settings you wish and click "Start." If you wish to use DSHobro from a WiFi hotspot, check the box next to "Enable Remote Access."

Remove the MicroSD card from the USB adapter and insert it into the DS SLOT-1 adapter. Plug the adapter into your Nintendo DS.

Turn the DS on and open the DSHobro.nds file. Press the "A" button if you wish to connect through your home network. Press the "B" button if you wish to use a WiFi hotspot or other remote access point. Press the "X" button to configure your connection settings manually.

Use the stylus to click on links or browser buttons. Use the face buttons or directional pad to scroll across a web page. Press "Select" to display the browser interface. Press "Start" to refresh the page.

Tips & Warnings
DSHobro cannot display Flash movies smoothly, so functionality with YouTube or other video sites will be limited. If the message "The zero configuration server appears to be down" is displayed when you start DSHobro, you will have to enter your PC's IP address manually. Press "X" to begin the manual configuration process.
Do not close the server application on your PC. DSHobro will not be able to connect to the Internet without it.
