How to Use Cell Phones in School
"U.S. News" reports that one-third of students cheat by using their cell phones in class to search for answers and to text during tests. It's no wonder that most school have some sort of ban or limited-use rules regarding cell phones. However, enterprising students will find ways to use their cell phones at school, and some teachers actually advocate cell phone usage as a learning tool. Use them sparingly and discreetly or risk having them confiscated by teachers and administration.

1
Turn off all sounds and alerts on your phone. While a loud ring tone will obviously disrupt the class and should be turned off, many forget that even when on vibrate, a cell phone can be noisy. Turn off all sounds, and rely simply on the lighting up of the screen or frequent checking to look for new messages and calls.
-
2
Keep the phone somewhere nearby that won't be conspicuous, such as in the front pocket of your backpack or in an easily-accessible pocket or handbag. You don't want to have to keep searching for your cell phone when you need to check for a message.

3
Be discreet about your cell phone usage. It goes without saying that most cell phone usage in school is frowned upon. When using your cell phone, keep it out of the sight of other students and teachers.
-
4
Use your cell phone in school only for real emergencies or to contact family. While it may be tempting to text some of your friends, you can talk to them later or text after class, in the lunchroom or during a spare period. Don't use it to play video games that will be distracting while in class.

5
Never cheat using your cell phone in school. While there are companies that exist solely so that you can gain answers to questions by texting them to a phone number, cheating by cell phone is punishable by bad grades, detention and even suspension. If cheating is too much of a temptation for you, leave your cell phone in your locker.
-
6
Find ways to utilize your cell phone in a respectful way during class. For instance, many cell phones have a calculator function. Clear usage of these tools and applications with your teacher before you use them, so that there aren't any questions about your cheating or using your cell phone to text friends during school.
