How to Install a Russian Keyboard

Changing your American keyboard to a Russian keyboard is helpful if you are taking Russian classes or if you speak Russian. The Russian language uses the Cyrillic alphabet, which uses different characters than the English alphabet. Applying the Russian keyboard in Windows 2000 is a simple process, and you can easily switch from your English keyboard to a Russian keyboard.

      Click on "Start," then scroll your mouse over "Settings," then "Control Panel." Double-click on "Regional Options."

      Click the box next to "Cyrillic" under the heading "Language settings for the system" then click "Apply." At this point your computer may ask you to insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.

      Activate the Russian keyboard by again clicking on "Start" then scrolling your mouse over "Settings" then "Control Panel." Double-click on the "Keyboard" icon.

      Click on the tab "Input Locales" at the top of the box, then click "Add," which will make the "Add Input Language" box appear.

      Click on the "Input Language" box and scroll down until you find "Russian." Then click on it. Click on "OK" at the bottom of the box. Click on "Apply" to in the "Input Locales" window to finalize the changes.

      Switch between the English and Russian keyboards by clicking on the language selection option on the bottom right of your Windows screen near the clock.
