How to Get Rid of Scabies With Natural Remedies

Scabies are microscopic mites that burrow beneath your skin, causing an intensely itchy red rash resembling small blisters or pimples (see Reference 1). Scabies favor skin folds, but may spread to any part of your body. The condition is often misdiagnosed as eczema or an allergic rash (see Reference 2). Neem is a natural product with many uses; it is the popular name for a tree known as "the village pharmacy" in India and is both applied externally and taken internally.

    • 1

Make a strong tea with the Neem tea bags or dried leaves. Add the tea and the oil to a bathtub filled with hot water. Soak in the tub for at least 20 minutes. If you prefer, use the Neem soap in the shower, stepping out of the stream while you use the soap on every part of your body before rinsing off.

    • 2

Lather your body with the Neem soap, covering every part, if you are using the bathtub and already have soaked. Rinse off and dry yourself with a towel. Apply Neem lotion to your entire body and leave it on; it is not only non-toxic but actually beneficial to your skin. Repeat this treatment for two to three weeks. Symptoms should dissipate in 3 to 10 days.

Wash bed clothing in hot water. Scabies can survive in clothing and bed clothes and re-infest you later, so wash and dry these articles on the hottest settings. If necessary, clothes and bed clothes can be hung outside to dry. Carpets and furniture should be vacuumed. All family members who may be infested must be treated to avoid reinfestation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Neem works to stop the mites from reproducing and does not kill them outright, though the Neem will quickly begin to soothe the itching. Therefore, it is not an instant cure and requires diligence in both treatment and sanitation. Scabies mites can live outside the body for 72 hours, and washing the bedding and any towels or clothing is an important part of the treatment.
