Making dolls can be a fun hobby. You can have dolls that are decorative or functional. Paper is often used to make clothing for decorative dolls. It is easier to work with than fabric because it can be glued together rather than sewn. Crepe paper works well to make a collar for doll clothing. The crinkles in the crepe paper make it flexible for the curve of the doll's neck.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Crepe paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Take the shirt off the doll. Be careful not to tear the shirt when removing it.

  2. Step 2

Use a flexible measuring tape to measure around the top of the doll's shirt. Cut a piece of crepe paper that length, plus two inches.

  3. Step 3

Fold the ends of the crepe paper toward the back of the crepe paper. Glue the folds in place. The folded ends will create a clean edge on the collar.

  4. Step 4

Overlap the crepe paper 1/4" inside around the top of the shirt. The folded ends of the crepe paper should be facing down so they are under the collar when it is attached. Glue the crepe paper around the inside of the shirt so the seam of the crepe paper does not show. Let it dry completely before trying the shirt on the doll.

  5. Step 5

Fold the collar over like a shirt collar.

  6. Step 6

If the collar is too tall, use scissors to trim the collar to the appropriate height.

  7. Step 7

If desired, add a decorative element on the corner of the collar like a painted flower. Keep the decoration within the theme of the doll.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also fold the crepe paper in half lengthwise before attaching to the doll's outfit to make the height of the collar thinner; this will add volume to the collar as well. Layer two pieces of crepe paper with different colors for visual interest. For a ruffled collar, make 1/4-inch folds every 1/4-inch all the way around the top of the shirt. If you want bigger ruffles, use bigger folds. You must measure the crepe paper after it is ruffled to get the correct length to make the collar.
