How to Fix Blurry Pictures

An otherwise perfect photo can be ruined if the subjects are out of focus or blurry due to a shaky camera or excessive lighting. It is not too late to fix these photos, and photographers can use image-editing tools to sharpen a blurry photo, improving upon the starting quality of the picture.

      Download and install PhotoScape.

      Insert the memory card with your photos into your computer. Launch PhotoScape and choose the menu option labeled "Edit." Select the photo you wish to fix from the menu on the left.

      Click on "Sharpen" from the tools on the bottom of the screen. Click on the name, not the arrow, to open the advanced menu. Set the radius to 1.0; this will select the entire photo.

      Adjust the "Amount" bat between 10% and 100%. Greater than 100% will cause the picture to look grainy and pixelated, below 10% will make photo unrecognizable.

      Keep adjusting the amount by small increments until the picture has achieved the desired sharpness.

      Exit the "Sharpen" menu. Select "Save" and rename the file to prevent it from saving over your original file.

Tips & Warnings

  • Photos can also be scanned into your computer and fixed even if they were not taken with a digital camera.
