1
Create invitations that get guests excited about returning to the Golden Age. Ask guests to wear 1930's pieces or at least look-a-likes. Do leg work for your guests by suggesting what both men and women should wear, providing pictures or pointing them to websites they can browse for ideas.
-
2
Pick out four or five 1930's films and watch them. Stick with films people might know or have at least heard of in conversation. "All Quiet on the Western Front" won no Academy Awards but is a well-known film of 1930. Pick out two to show during the party, giving you approximately four hours of film. Use them as background filler for the party but plan to have a lounging area so that people who are tired of mingling can repose and catch a second wind.

3
Serve drinks and food characteristic of the 1930s. Champagne Cocktails, Gin Rickeys and a Sherry Flip will set the tone to another era. Make a menu for the bar area so that guests know they cannot order just anything. Write out a definition of the drinks below the name to peak interest in trying something they've not tried before.
-
4
Post pictures and fliers of the greatest stars of the 1930s such as Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Mae West around the party room. Find or hire some actors who can impersonate notable celebrities like Charlie Chaplain and Shirley Temple. Make sure they stay in character and never give away their true identity during the party.

Make sure invitees know the party is both for Hollywood and cars of the era. Keep it open invitation to encourage people who own vintage cars to come and be a part if they are not directly on your guest list. While the parties can be held separately, adding the car element brings to a more complete and holistic feel and gives guests more to do as they gander at what once was in transportation.
-
6
Contact car enthusiast clubs in the area and extend invitations to 1930's car owners in those circles. Most vintage car owners know one another and enjoy getting together to show off their prized possessions. Convey the idea of the party is to take everyone back to the 1930s and ask them to dress up and fully participate, rather than just bring their car.
-
7
Provide ample, reserved parking space for the cars. Make sure cars can be parked far enough apart so that door opening is easy and denting is not a possibility. Get outdoor lamps that shine bright enough to light the vehicles, but not so bright as to blind guests or create a disturbance at night.
-
8
Consider offering a small gift to the 1930s car owners you do not know. Many of the car owners no longer drive their cars and even put them on flatbeds to transport them for showcasing. Honor their participation with a small gift of money or a gift certificate.
